A couple from Windsor says they spotted a drunk driver on Interstate 25 with her eyes shut and slumped over the wheel, but still moving down the highway. They called 911. What happened next is what has raised concerns.
The time was 2:22 p.m., and Windsor firefighter Nathan Berryman and his wife were going southbound on I-25 at E-470. After following the driver for 15 minutes, the police never showed up.
Colorado State Patrol says the three troopers in the area that afternoon were working other incidents. The call was eventually transferred to Thornton Police, but they say the car was already out of their jurisdiction, so they passed it back to Adams County.
“We’re limited on the resources we have, as are other agencies. We really do attempt to get to all of these,” Trooper Nate Reid with the Colorado State Patrol said.
