A stretch of highway in the metro area will be shut down Saturday night by construction.

At about 8:30 p.m. Saturday the north- and southbound lanes of I-225 will be closed for bridge girder installation, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

“We are installing girders for the new 17th Place bridge over I-225 as part of the last phase of this interchange improvement project,” said CDOT Project Engineer George Warda in a media release. “Since the work takes place over I-225, we must completely close the highway for the duration of the work.”

The highway should reopen Sunday at 8 a.m., CDOT said.

Detours will be in place during the closure. Drivers should expect delays and alternate routes are strongly suggested.

The work is part of an $11 million project scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2013. SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor.
