Denver’s Louie Byrd fell to New Jersey’s Leroy Davila by a 21-20 decision in a 108-pound semifinal bout in the USA Boxing national championships at Fort Carson.
With the loss, the three-time national champion and four-time Golden Gloves winner will not have an opportunity to compete at the Summer Olympics in London.
DU basketball players earn kudos. University of Denver senior forward Kaetlyn Murdoch and junior guard Emiko Smith were named to the College Sports Madness All-Sun Belt Conference Team.
Murdoch was named to the All-SBC first team, while Smith was selected as a fourth-team honoree. The two led DU to their second consecutive 19-win season, finishing second in the SBC West Division.
Ulanski honored for February. Colorado Eagles right wing Kevin Ulanski is the Reebok Hockey ECHL player of the month for February. The 29-year-old scored seven goals, added 17 assists and was a plus-6 in 12 games.
