Class 5A

Great 8, at the Denver Coliseum. ()

(1) Arapahoe 55, (2) ThunderRidge 53.

Zach Kocur hit a reverse layup with seven seconds to play, and Arapahoe stole ThunderRidge’s ensuing possession to clinch the first spot in the 5A final four.

Arapahoe held a lead for most of the game until ThunderRidge’s Joe Marucci hit a layup at the end of the third quarter to give the Grizzlies a 37-36 lead heading to the fourth.

Things stayed close until the end. Kocur hit a free-throw to give his team a 53-51 lead with 49 seconds remaining, but Marucci had another acrobatic layup to tie things up. He was fouled on the play, but missed the free throw.

After Kocur’s layup gave Arapahoe the lead, ThunderRidge had a final possession thwarted by Jack Bobzien.

Kocur finished with a game-high 18 points. Shane Jensen had 16 for Arapahoe.

Kaileb Rodriguez led ThunderRidge with 13 points. He left the game late in the fourth quarter with a left knee injury.

(2) Highlands Ranch 66, (5) Mountain Vista 55.

Brett Brady and Austin Haldorson each had 19 points, Steve Donatell scored 12, and Highlands Ranch pulled away from upset-minded Mountain Vista in the fourth quarter.

(4) Rangeview 47, (3) Cherry Creek 46.

Rangeview had an 18-5 run in the third quarter to grab its first lead of the game, and the used a stout final minute of defense to hold on against Cherry Creek. Jeremiah Page led Rangeview with 16 points. Matt Ratiner had 17 for Cherry Creek.

The Raiders will play Arapahoe in the final four.

(1) Chaparral 76, (2) Columbine 61.

Josh Adams had 30 points, Cory Calvert had 17 and Chaparral stormed into the final four with a statement win over Columbine. Nick Carpinello had 26 points, including six 3-pointers, in the loss for Columbine.

Chaparral will play Highlands Ranch next week.

Class 4A

Great 8, at the Colorado School of Mines. ()

(2) Valor Christian 53, (5) Kennedy 52.

Kennedy played basket-for-basket with Valor Christian, but the Eagles’ Marcus Wilson drained a late free throw and Jourdan Hunter’s long-range shot fell short for Kennedy at the buzzer.

(1) Sierra 65, (2) D’Evelyn 63.

Wesley Gordon had the game-winning layup to help Sierra defeat D’Evelyn. D’Evelyn had tied the game at 63 with 14.6 seconds remaining after Luke Stratman hit a 3-pointer and was fouled. He made the free throw.

(1) Lewis-Palmer 72, (2) Pueblo Central 48.

Josh Scott had a game-high 29 points and his younger brother, Jordan, had 16 points to lead No. 1 Lewis-Palmer over No. 2 Pueblo Central. Lewis-Palmer will play Valor Christian in next week’s final four in Boulder.

Austin Wood had a game-high 26 points to lead Broomfield Eagles over Golden. Broomfield only led by two at halftime (27-25) but outscored Golden 43-27 in the second half.
