The quest for 66 mushers to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race started Sunday with the competition’s official start in Willow, Alaska. The mushers and their dog teams will spend about the next eight days traveling across nearly 1,000 miles of Alaska wilderness, all trying to be the first musher to reach the old gold rush town of Nome. There are six former champions in the race, including last year’s winner, John Baker, who said he doesn’t feel any added pressure. “I’m hoping to do the very best that the dogs can do, and if they do that, then we’ll be in fine shape,” Baker said.
