An Aurora man who robbed a Central City casino at gunpoint and who attempted to shoot a police officer has been sentenced to 224 years in prison.

Randy Steven Keesee, 45, was sentenced Friday in Gilpin County. He has multiple felonies as a habitual criminal, which compounded his sentence, according to the Gilpin County District Attorney’s Office.

In April 2010, Keesee robbed the Famous Bonanza Casino in Central City. Wielding a semi-automatic handgun, Keesee demanded money from two cashiers and fled with $28,000 stuffed into a bag.

Keesee drove to the parking garage of the Golden Gate Casino in Black Hawk and was encountered by Black Hawk police officer.

Keesee tried to shoot the officer, but his gun misfired, the DA’s office said. The officer returned fire, hitting Keesee, and he was arrested.

In November a Gilpin County jury found Keesee guilty of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and seven additional felony counts including aggravated robber and theft over $20,000.

Keesee has a lengthy criminal record and the court found him to be a habitual criminal.
