ASPEN — Kay Bucksbaum, the chairwoman of the Aspen Music Festival and School’s board of trustees, has stepped down from the position due to health reasons, the music festival announced Tuesday. Vice Chairwoman Fonda Paterson will serve as chairwoman until a successor is approved by the full board. A meeting of the board is scheduled for March 17. Bucksbaum will remain closely involved with the organization and will remain a voting member of the 50-person board of trustees.

Bucksbaum became chairwoman of the board in June 2009. Under her leadership, the music festival appointed Robert Spano as music director, signed president and CEO Alan Fletcher to a five-year contract and finalized a plan to redevelop the organization’s Castle Creek campus. The campus is now named the Matthew and Carolyn Bucksbaum Campus in honor of the couple’s lead gift of $25 million to the development campaign.
