 Falcon School District 49 students who ride the bus and their families may see lower rates and more stops for the program next year.

The district transportation director suggested several changes to the school board for the fee-for-service program, including cutting the price and adding more bus stops. Proposals could be presented to the board for a vote in April.

District 49 started charging $1 per bus ride at the start of this school year as way to save money. At the same time, the location and number of stops significantly changed.

“We’ve had a lot of calls on how expensive it is,” said Cindy Hardin, D-49 transportation director. The cost is an extreme hardship for many families, especially those with multiple children, she said.
