They offer Internet download speeds that are up to 10 times faster than third generation, or 3G, networks. So if you’re shopping for a mobile phone primarily to use for voice calls and text messaging, a 4G-capable phone is not necessary. But if you’ll frequently use the phone to surf the Web or watch online videos, go with a 4G smartphone.
