GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Rep. Doug Lamborn says he’ll continue to seek ways to open access to America’s vast energy reserves following the defeat of a proposal that aimed to expedite oil shale development.
The Colorado Republican had proposed legislation to require the Interior Department to offer more land for companies to lease for research on how to commercially develop oil shale, which must be heated at extremely high temperatures before it produces oil.
It had support in the House. But The Daily Sentinel reports ( ) the U.S. Senate this week rejected an amendment to the transportation bill that included the oil shale provisions.
