AURORA, Colo.—Aurora police say a firefighter riding his bicycle to work has died after he was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection.
The fire department says Jason Murphy was struck around 7:30 a.m. Friday at a crosswalk and died of his injuries at a hospital. The death was later confirmed by a police statement.
Police say the driver, William Nale of Aurora, couldn’t see Murphy or the red light at the intersection because of the morning sun. Witnesses told police it didn’t appear Nale was speeding.
Murphy had been with Aurora Fire since February 2003 and held the rank of engineer.
Nale has been cited for careless driving resulting death and failure to provide proof of insurance upon request.
