Garfield County officials are investigating the death of a person struck by a train today near the town of Silt.

Garfield County Sheriff spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said the person has not been identified.

McGinnis said the Garfield County Coroner was called to the fatal scene.

Channel 7 News quoted an Amtrak spokeswoman as saying the train involved was the California Zephyr and there were 178 passengers onboard. No passengers or crew members were injured.

The train left Chicago on Friday and was 20 miles west of Glenwood Springs when the collision happened just before 3 p.m.
