DENVER—Search crews have recovered a body from the Ajax mine near Creede in southwestern Colorado.
The body was found last weekend and appeared to have been trapped in a partial collapse of the mine, but unstable conditions and the risk of avalanche postponed the recovery until Saturday. The Denver Post ( ) reports the body is believed to be that of mine owner Kevin Lawrence, who had been reported missing.
Park County Coroner David Kintz Jr. says an autopsy will be performed in the next couple of days.
