BOULDER, Colo.—A University of Colorado student has been taken to a hospital with a headache after a chemical spill at a lab.
The Daily Camera reports ( ) the Engineering Center on the Boulder campus was evacuated around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after four students in a lab accidentally dropped a glass bottle containing 100 milliliters of acryloyl chloride. The substance turns into hydrochloric acid when it interacts with the air.
The students suffered some eye irritation, and university officials evacuated the building as a precaution.
CU police spokesman Ryan Huff says the student who reported the headache was in the basement and hadn’t realized the building was being evacuated.
