The east lawns of Civic Center, the where Occupy Denver holds its demonstrations, has been fenced as city crews prepare to perform routine maintenance in the park.
The 6-foot high green fences went up early this morning to prepare the area for scheduled maintenance, according to the Denver Parks and Recreation.
About 20 people who have been camping at the site since October, left the area early this morning.
Crews will lay sod, install irrigation systems, do grading and complete concrete work. Similar work has been done on the part of the park that fronts West Colfax Avenue.
The green fences stretch the length of the park along Broadway, but leave the amphitheater and west side of the park open.
“This is long-standing business we have to do,” spokesman Jay Clark said.
Crews will finish several projects that were halted when the weather turned too cold last fall.
Sections of the sidewalk along the edge of the park and the west-most lane of Broadway will be temporarily closed during some of the concrete repairs.
