SANTA FE, N.M.—The New Mexico Department of Transportation says the state highway patrol has reopened the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 between Raton and Raton Pass.

The interstate in the Raton area was closed for part of Tuesday due to extreme winds and snowy conditions. Northbound lanes were reopened earlier in the afternoon.

New Mexico crews spent the day plowing and spreading salt and cinder on the northbound lanes of the highway to the Colorado border.

State transportation officials say visibility along the interstate dropped to zero earlier in the day as winds gusted at 50 mph.
