BOULDER — When Colorado played in the Pac-12 and NCAA basketball tournaments, dozens of student fans whose travel expenses were subsidized by the athletic department cheered them on.
Athletic director Mike Bohn says donations paid for bringing in the moral support. The Daily Camera reports () the tab totaled $67,200.
First the athletic department flew 50 students to Los Angeles and paid for their lodging and tickets to watch the men’s and women’s basketball teams at the Pac-12 tournament. Then, Colorado subsidized travel for 110 fans to go to Albuquerque, N.M., to watch the men’s team play Baylor in the NCAA tournament. Those fans paid only $50 for their travel and tickets.
Students were selected based on attendance at previous games, with extra points for attending women’s games.
