MONTROSE, Colo.—The Bureau of Land Management has completed its draft environmental assessment on a proposal by SG Interests for natural gas exploration north of the Paonia Reservoir State Park.
Now it’s seeking public comments on it.
The proposal includes developing up to 146 natural gas wells and four water disposal wells on federal and private mineral leases. SG Interests already owns and operates 11 private and five federal natural gas wells on 13 well pads in the area.
The BLM is looking at the company’s latest plans as part of a proposed master development plan, instead of as a series of individual actions as it did with the first 13 well pads. BLM officials say that should help minimize road development, pipelines and other surface impacts.
