DENVER—The 38th annual Denver March Powwow is featuring drummers and dancers representing nearly 100 tribes from around the country this weekend.
The Denver March Powwow Committee, which organizes the event, selected Mikala Summer SunRhodes of the Northern Arapaho tribe in Wyoming as the event’s Powwow princess.
The powwow runs Friday through Sunday at the Denver Coliseum. It features an arts and crafts show, a music festival with drum groups and a dance competition.
Dancers from California, Washington, Oregon and the Great Lakes region are registered to perform. The show features an average of 1,000 dancers each year.
The powwow committee aims to preserve American Indian performing arts.
More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the event.
