Aurora Police are investigating the death of a man who was found shot in the driver seat of his vehicle earlier this afternoon.
Police responded to a call about shots fired just before 1 p.m. today near the 1900 block of Dayton Street.
When officers responded to the area they found a dark colored SUV sitting at the stoplight intersection, just south of East Montview Boulevard.
Inside the Jeep Cherokee, a man sat in the driver’s seat, unresponsive and suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses in an attempt to try to identify possible suspects, but are getting conflicting information about where the other vehicle was located when someone inside opened fire on the man in the Jeep.
Frank Fania, a spokesman for the Aurora Police Department, said investigators believe the suspect did not step out of a vehicle to shoot.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin and the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Tom Welton at (303)739-6107 or to remain anonymous and possibly earn up to $2,000, call Crime Stoppers at (720)913-STOP (7867).
