Chase Carraro scored three goals and Ryan LaPlante recorded 12 saves in his second career start in net as the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team (5-3, 1-1 ECAC) defeated Air Force 11-8 on Saturday at Falcon Stadium.

The Pioneers’ LaPlante allowed eight goals on 31 shots, with Erik Smith and Adam Paranka each scoring two goals for the Falcons (3-4, 0-2).

Pioneers third at own tournament. The University of Denver men’s golf team finished third (14-under-par) at the DU-hosted Desert Shootout at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.

Wichita State (28-under) won the tournament while Air Force (5-under) finished seventh.

Metro’s Maul almost perfect. Metro State softball starting pitcher Aubree Maul came within three outs of a perfect game in the Roadrunners’ 8-0 win over Western New Mexico in the first game of a doubleheader. Maul allowed one hit over five innings. Metro State (15-17, 12-8 RMAC) defeated the Mustangs (11-24, 6- 16) 9-5 in the second game.
