The University of Colorado women’s basketball team did so many good things Sunday, it almost seemed wrong for the Buffs to come away with a loss.
Colorado’s outside shooting sizzled and Chucky Jeffery had a rare triple-double, but Oklahoma State ended the Buffs’ season 78-70 in the quarterfinals of the Women’s NIT at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
Jeffery had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It was just the third triple-double in school history, but the second of Jeffrey’s career. She also had one Nov. 27, 2010, against Loyola-Chicago.
Julie Seabrook, in her final game as a Buffalo, had 16 points and tied her career high with four 3-pointers. Brittany Wilson also tied her career high with four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. The Buffs finished with a season-high 15 3-pointers.
Despite Colorado’s best efforts, it played catch-up nearly all afternoon. Oklahoma State (20-12) dominated in the paint and never let the Buffs (21-14) gain the lead.
OSU outrebounded the Buffs 38-34 and had 11 offensive boards, most of those in the first half.
Mammoth clinches NLL playoff spot. Adam Jones scored 9:38 into overtime, leading the Colorado Mammoth to a 16-15 win over the host Philadelphia Wings. The win clinched a postseason spot for the Mammoth (9-3) and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Jones, the third overall pick in last year’s NLL entry draft, had four goals and five assists. John Grant Jr. finished with three goals and nine assists, and Gavin Prout chipped in four goals and four assists.
Mike Hominuck scored four goals for the Wings (7-5).
