COLORADO SPRINGS — A judge on Wednesday dismissed a juror who reportedly complained on Facebook about the “boring” pace in the case against former Colorado Springs police Officer Joshua Carrier, violating court rules against discussing the trial.
Juror No. 15 — whose name is being withheld by The Gazette — left with the judge’s thanks, and no legal sanctions were discussed.
She told the court that she didn’t mean to break any rules and had declined to answer her Facebook friends’ questions about the trial.
Defense attorney Joshua Tolini, however, disputed that account, saying he had been informed that she publicly identified the defendant and called testimony “boring.” Tolini said he learned of the comments from a personal friend whose wife is one of the woman’s Facebook contacts.
Carrier, 31, is being tried on more than 200 counts alleging he molested 22 children while volunteering at Horace Mann Middle School during the 2010-2011 school year.
On Wednesday morning, 4th Judicial District Judge David A. Gilbert described the juror’s comments as a “technical violation” and stopped short of discussing whether a mistrial was necessary.
