DENVER—A Denver doctor who pleaded guilty to obtaining thousands of generic Vicodin and generic Ambien pills by using aliases has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation, including six months of home detention with electronic monitoring.

A federal judge also ordered Louis Constantine Hampers on Wednesday to pay a fine of $30,000.

He must give up his medical license and his ability to prescribe controlled substances during his probation. Hampers also must undergo an extensive treatment program at his own expense.

Hampers once worked at Children’s Hospital Colorado. A grand jury indicted him on prescription fraud counts in 2010.
