A 2.5-mile memorial walk is planned Sunday in Denver for Kenia Monge, the 19-year-old who disappeared on April 1, 2011.
Her body was found Sept. 7 in a Weld County field after Travis Forbes confessed.
The march is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and begins at the cityWILD after-school leadership program’s office at 1620 E. 36th Ave. and ends at Skyline Park on Arapahoe Street between 15th and 16th streets.
Participants are asked to wear pink, Kenia’s favorite color, and can carry a sign with a message to Kenia and her family.
Participants also can bring a photo, poem, a story they have written or memory of Kenia they would like to place in a memory box for her family before the walk, organizers said.
“Once we arrive at Skyline Park, there will be an opportunity for those who would like to speak, to share their love for Kenia and the Monge-Lee family,” cityWILD states on its website..
Public transportation is available to return to cityWILD offices afterward.
Anyone who could like to volunteer can call Nicole Todd at 303-594-7931 or Nicole@citywild.org.
Donations can be made to the Kenia Monge Foundation, which helps grieving families and provides self-defense training and awareness to women.
The walk is organized by the Monge-Lee family and cityWILD, which teaches outdoor skills and leadership to children and teen-agers of color from low-income backgrounds.
