DENVER—A 911 operator is on leave pending an investigation into a call where a man died in a drive-by shooting after he was asked to wait for an officer.
Denver 911 Executive Director Carl Simpson apologized Monday. Simpson says the operator should have worked with police in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge.
Officials identify the man as 25-year-old Jimma Reat. Reat had reported that the occupants of another vehicle had broken a window on his car early Sunday near the Denver border with Wheat Ridge. The dispatcher asked the Reat, who had left Denver city limits, to return to meet patrol officers.
KMGH-TV reported () the victim was waiting at an intersection when a red Jeep with four men inside drove up and shot the driver in the back.
