COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother at her home in Security.
The plea Thursday by 27-year-old Rayshawn Laster sets him up for an automatic life sentence without possibility of parole.
Court documents say Laster shot 49-year-old Brenda Laster-Taylor in the head the night of Dec. 30 as she talked on the phone.
About two hours before the shooting, El Paso County sheriff’s deputies had visited Laster-Taylor’s home after she reported that her son had shoved and choked her. Laster left the scene.
Deputies returned to the home two hours later on a report of shots fired.
