STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—An energy company is applying for a federal hydropower license that could lead to construction of a new water storage reservoir southwest of Steamboat Springs.

Peabody Energy has notified Steamboat Springs officials of plans to begin the process.

According to Steamboat Today ( ), the proposed Trout Creek Reservoir would be able to capture almost one-third as much water as Stagecoach Reservoir south of town and cover roughly half the surface area of the current reservoir.
