TELLURIDE, Colo.—Authorities are investigating after the pilot of a small plane botched his landing and slid off the runway at the Telluride Regional Airport.

Deputy Chris White with the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office tells the Telluride Daily Planet ( ) two adults and two minors were aboard the 2008 Cessna 400 Low Wing when it crashed Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured.

The pilot told deputies he aborted his landing after realizing his plane was too high. On his second attempt, he experienced what investigators suspect was a tailwind and tried to take off again for a third approach, but his plane stalled. The right wing hit the ground, and the landing gear was crumpled on impact.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
