DENVER—A ban on trans fats in Colorado schools faces an uphill battle in the Republican House. All GOP senators voted against the idea Tuesday on its final stop in the Senate.

The Democratic-proposed trans fats ban started as the nation’s toughest but has been weakened to look more like school trans fats bans in other states. The ban would not apply to foods in a meal program by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the ban also wouldn’t apply to school fundraisers such as bake sales.

One change made to the bill earlier, to exempt rural counties from the ban, has been removed.

Two Democrats joined all Republicans in opposition to the trans fats ban, which passed by a single vote Tuesday, 18-17.
