LAS VEGAS—Attorneys who successfully defended a website in a copyright enforcement lawsuit are asking a federal judge to hold Nevada’s largest newspaper responsible for $775,000 in legal fees.

Lawyers for Democratic Underground filed documents Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas seeking to collect from the Las Vegas Review-Journal and corporate parent Stephens Media LLC.

The Las Vegas Sun reports ( ) the website defeated Las Vegas-based Righthaven LLC in one of 275 copyright infringement lawsuits Righthaven filed during the past two years over Review-Journal and Denver Post articles.

Attorneys for Democratic Underground allege the Review-Journal and Stephens improperly used Righthaven to press “frivolous” copyright claims.

Some defendants settled before trial, but Democratic Underground and others fought.

Review-Journal and Stephens lawyer Mark Hinueber (HIGH-neb-ur) is declining comment.
