A man burning weeds in his front yard Wednesday afternoon allegedly ignited a grass fire that consumed 1.25 acres north of Silverthorne before fire fighters and nearby ranchers contained it.
The Summit County Sheriff’s office is examining whether charges will be filed against the man thought to be responsible.
Fire authorities called the small blaze a close call, saying the flames were moving quickly toward nearby homes. High winds that could have worsened the situation picked up just as the fire was put out.
Local ranchers assisted fire fighters by using front-end loaders to create a fire line.
