DENVER—A hallmark jobs proposal from Democrats has cleared the Senate—but it appears headed to certain death in the Republican House.
The proposal would give state bidding preferences to companies that hire Colorado workers. Most Democrats called the bill a tool to ensure Colorado tax money supports Colorado jobs. But Republicans derided the plan as a hindrance to businesses.
The measure passed 19-16, with all Republicans and one Democrat against. The bill now heads to the House, where ruling Republicans have said the bill faces long odds.
