BOULDER, Colo.—Congressional candidate Eric Weissmann has filed a lawsuit in Denver District Court appealing the Secretary of State’s ruling that he fell short of the necessary petition signatures for inclusion in a Republican Party primary.
Weissmann wants to challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, a Boulder Democrat.
Weissmann opted to petition on the ballot to face state Sen. Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud, who got more than 80 percent of the delegate votes cast in the GOP’s 2nd Congressional District Assembly.
According to the Boulder Daily Camera ( ), nearly 1,400 district Republicans signed petitions to get Weissmann on the ballot, but the Secretary of State’s staff accepted only 842 of those signatures. That’s 158 fewer signatures than Weissmann needed to qualify for the primary.
