LOVELAND — The wooden block with a quilt pattern hanging at Merchant Voyage, a gift and home décor store, is a pastel canvas of tangerine and turquoise with a cherry-colored heart in the middle.

The block on display in the window at the Heart of the Earth is red and teal and also has a heart at its center.

And the panel to be hung at First United Methodist Church shows hands holding a heart, as the church’s theme is “open hearts, open minds, open doors.”

Betty La Pan spearheaded an effort to bring the Quilt Barn Trails project to Colorado a year ago. The project began in Ohio in 2001, when Mark Lewis and Bill Brown started a “barn quilt” to honor an expert quilter.
