DENVER—Colorado officials say census figures show low-income households outnumber affordable rental units in Colorado.
The Department of Local Affairs said Monday there are twice as many low-income households as there are affordable rental units statewide.
The report assumes that households earning $20,000 can afford a monthly rent payment of $500, or 30 percent of monthly income.
Officials estimate there were approximately 298,000 rent-burdened households in Colorado when the survey was taken from 2006 to 2010.
