FORT COLLINS — After four seasons and a 50-71 record, Kristen Holt reached a mutual agreement Wednesday with Colorado State to resign from her position as the head women’s basketball coach.
Holt, whose team finished 13-17 and tied for third in the Mountain West (9-5) this past season, said her decision was made for personal reasons.
“It’s really just time for me to move on, and move in a different direction and pursue some other opportunities,” Holt said.
Holt leaves with one year remaining on her initial contract, which means she’ll receive three months severance pay from the university, athletic director Jack Graham said.
Graham, who was hired as CSU’s AD on Dec. 1, now begins his third prominent head coaching search in five months on the job after hiring Jim McElwain to head the football program in December and Larry Eustachy to lead the men’s basketball team earlier this month. Graham said he expects to make this latest hire by June 1.
“I have the same expectation for our women’s program as I do for our men’s program, which is that we should be consistently competing to win conference championships, very competitive in conference tournaments, consistently talking about going to the NCAA Tournament, winning 20-plus games every year, and being part of the national basketball scene for women’s basketball,” Graham said. “That’s my expectation, and I’m really confident we can achieve that.”
Dick Lien will serve as the interim head coach.
