BOULDER, Colo.—A bear who wandered onto the University of Colorado campus has been relocated to the mountains.
The 200-pound male wandered around a residence hall area—near the Bear Creek Apartments—Thursday morning before climbing a tree. The bear rested there for about two hours and then was tranquilized by state wildlife officers. Campus police spokesman Ryan Huff said the bear fell onto thick mats provided by the campus’ recreation center and then taken to a higher elevation.
Wildlife officers say bears have also been spotted in Colorado Springs, Durango and Summit County. The city of Boulder hasn’t had any bear problems.
Aspen police spokeswoman Blair Weyer says there have been some reports of knocked over trash cans there but no bears have been spotted downtown.
