For the first time this season, the Rapids will play with a losing record when they host Chivas USA on Saturday in Commerce City. Having lost three games in a row, Oscar Pareja’s crew has hit an early-season skid.
But there’s good news between the lines.
Star striker Conor Casey is set to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon in 2011. The Rapids likely will use him in a reserve role later in the game.
And the team Casey returns to is far from rubble. A 2-1 loss to David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy last week, while disappointing, showed flashes of good form.
“I’d argue that we had the better team on Saturday (against L.A.),” Rapids president Tim Hinchey said this week. “And we didn’t have some of our best players available.”
Along with Casey, the Rapids also likely will have playmaker Martin Rivero back in the midfield after missing last week with a thigh injury.
