The Rapids on Friday awarded one of their best players with a raise, signing midfielder Jeff Larentowicz to a multiyear contract extension. Terms of the deal were not released. Larentowicz — who also made four appearances for the U.S. national team last year — joined the Rapids in 2010, the season they won the MLS Cup. Larentowicz, 28, led the team in scoring last season with seven goals. “We needed his strong play and leadership to win the MLS Cup, and the United States national team has also seen his value,” Rapids technical director Paul Bravo said. “We’re thrilled that he’ll continue in our midfield for years to come.” Nick Groke, The Denver Post
