
A great day in any language
Día del Niño hits the Denver Art Museumon Sunday with events including the performance of award-winning Mexican ballerina Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernandez leading the prestigious contemporary dance company Mexico en Movimiento. The celebration recognizes children and their important role in society, and is celebrated in more than 120 countries. It’s now one the fastest-growing multicultural events for children in Denver. Check out related bilingual activities at the Byers-Evans House Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, the Denver Public Library and the History Colorado Center. The DAM and other museums will have free admission; the history museum will be free to kids under 12. And San Cajetan’s Church will also be hosting a free festival celebrating Día del Niño on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. with dance and theater performances, food and music. Well-known veterinarian and comedian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald will supply the laughs at tonight’s sixth annual “Power of Love” benefit for Almost Home Adoptions, 5-9 p.m. The nonprofit is an adoption center, rescue and sanctuary for kittens and cats. Sew much fun
Authors Nicole Blum and Debra Immergut will discuss and sign their new book “Improv Sewing” from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fancy Tiger Crafts, 59 Broadway. The duo’s philosophy is “pursue joy, not pursue perfection” and that’s why there are no patterns to follow and just a few rules for the 101 sewing projects featured in their book. A demonstration and refreshments are included.
Craft a cool (and hot) Mother’s Day gift
Weehawken’s All Fired Up! Clay Center in Ridgway offers an extensive schedule of classes and workshops (and even parties) for all ages. “Make a Mom Memory” is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
