FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A pilot program would give lower-income Fort Collins Utilities customers a break on their electricity bills if they rely on electric-powered medical equipment.
The Coloradoan reports ( ) that under a pilot program approved by City Council, qualified customers could receive discounts of up to $11.71 per month during non-summer months, depending on their electrical use. During June, July and August, if customers use air conditioning to relieve or treat a medical condition, the discount could reach $41.66.
Households are eligible for the pilot program if they earn 60 percent or less of the area median income.
City staff members are expected to report back on the usage and cost of the program by June 2013.
