A 59-year-old Highland Ranch man was found guilty today of five counts of incest, five counts of sex assault on a child with a pattern of abuse and one count of sex assault on a child.

Roger Joseph Charette, 59, was earlier convicted in 1984 of attempted sexual assault on a child in Adams County.

He was , when he was accused of assaulting two children over several years at his Douglas County home. Sheriff’s Investigator Dea Aragon found evidence Charette had sexually assaulted at least six young girls he knew, dating back to the early 1980s. Several of the alleged prior victims testified at the trial, prosecutors said today.

Charette was charged as being a habitual sex offender against children, and faces enhanced sentencing in June.

He is being held in custody without bond.

“This defendant is one of the most truly dangerous predators that I’ve encountered, and these convictions mean that children in our communities will not face danger from him any more,” senior deputy district attorney Jay Williford said in court today, the District Attorney’s Office said in a media release.

Deputy district attorney Christopher Gallo added: “This prosecution was about the courage of a young girl, who knew that what was happening to her was wrong, and told someone about it.

“That’s a very difficult thing to do, and too often it never happens- but in this case, a young girl was very brave, and that set us on the course to do justice for this defendant’s victims.”
