COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge is blocking a move by the El Paso County clerk and recorder to cancel primaries for Democrats and American Constitution Party members, whose candidates are running uncontested June 26.

Clerk Wayne Williams had hoped to save $68,000 from not mailing primary ballots to members of the two parties. But Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler sued to block the move. Gessler said that because county Republicans are still having a primary to pick candidates, other primaries can’t be canceled.

The Gazette reports ( ) a judge ruled Friday that Democrats and American Constitution Party members in the county will get ballots for the June 26 primary election, even if those ballots are blanks.

Williams says he’ll abide by the ruling.
