Aurora Water workers say they have replaced 17 manhole covers in the past week because of thefts.
They say thieves are popping the 80-pound manhole covers from the ground and trying to scrap them for cash.
“The value of these on the recycle market is about $9 a piece,” Aurora Water Manager Mark Donelson said.
Donelson says Aurora Water and Aurora Police are working with local scrap-metal yards to make them aware of the thefts.
