AVON, Colo.—Authorities are investigating a crash that left one person dead when a tractor-trailer crashed off Interstate 70 onto a car before catching fire.

The crash occurred early Sunday, when the truck fell off a bridge and hit a car, crushing the driver’s side. The driver of the truck was killed, but the occupants of the car survived. A passenger in the semi was treated for non-critical injuries at Vail Valley Medical Center.

According to the Vail Daily ( ), witnesses said the truck burst into flames and then exploded after the accident.

A structural engineer from the Colorado Department of Transportation is examining the bridge. A single lane of westbound I-70 was closed, while eastbound lanes are open.
