DENVER—A Denver 911 operator who told victims of a road rage incident to wait for officers back at the scene, where one was then fatally shot, has been fired.

Police say the operator received a call in April from passengers in a vehicle reporting that people in another vehicle threw bottles at their car, breaking a window. The passengers had left the spot in Denver where it happened to call 911 from a suburb.

The dispatcher told them to go back to the scene, where the suspect vehicle returned and fired a gun, killing Jimma Reat.

KUSA-TV in Denver reports ( ) the dispatcher, who was reprimanded after a separate incident in February, was fired Tuesday. City officials haven’t released the 911 operator’s name, citing concerns for the operator’s safety.
