A Denver 911 operator was fired Tuesday, after incorrectly telling a driver and his passengers to return to the area of a road rage incident.
A person in the caller’s car was then shot at the scene. Jimma Reat later died.
9Wants to Know has learned the 911 operator had received a verbal reprimand one month before the April incident. The firing letter, released to 9Wants to Know by the City and County of Denver, says the employee was reprimanded on February 29 for his “omission of several scene safety aspects and lack of acceptance of the location information being provided.”
Denver 911 and the City and County of Denver have declined to give the 911 operator’s name, citing safety concerns for him.
In the much publicized incident that led to his firing, the operator received a call from a person in a vehicle with three passengers, saying people in another vehicle threw bottles and other debris at their car, breaking a window. The incident happened near 29th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
