DENVER—The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a report that a small jet airplane had a close call with an unidentified object over Denver.

The FAA said Wednesday it’s trying to determine what the object was and who was operating it. The close call occurred Monday.

In an audio recording from LiveATC.net, the pilot of a twin-jet Cessna Citation tells air traffic controllers he saw something “like a large remote-controlled aircraft.”

KUSA-TV reported the Citation was about 8,000 feet above sea level, or about 2,800 feet above the ground, at the time the pilot reported the seeing the object.

The pilot’s name wasn’t immediately available and it’s not clear how many people were on the plane. No damage or injuries have been reported.
