GREELEY — Just about three hours into deliberations, a Weld District jury on Friday convicted a Greeley woman of setting her rental home on fire while her son was inside sleeping.
Kendra Delsordo, 40, visibly shook as she stood waiting for the verdict after a four-day trial. She was charged with first-degree arson, criminal mischief and a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment.
The jury acquitted her only of criminal mischief; she faces 12 years in prison for the arson conviction if Weld District Court Judge Timothy Kerns doesn’t find aggravating circumstances to increase it. Her attorneys have asked that she be screened for possible placement into community corrections or intensive supervised probation.
The jury found that Delsordo set fire to her rental home, likely before going to bed on Dec. 17, 2010. She and her son awoke the next morning to a smoke-filled house. Fire investigators found more than a dozen burn marks on the siding of the house, including significant damage to the outside of house beneath the dryer vent.
Investigators determined unanimously that the fire was intentionally set. When interviewed by police, Delsordo told three different stories, eventually admitting to starting the fire, but accidentally.
